Takahiro Kuroda (b. 1989) is a Japanese composer based in Chiba.

His work explores relationships between sounds, the relationship between sound and silence, and the modes of being of time and space in musical compositions. In recent years, his concern with “listening” has expanded from the perception of acoustic relations to encompass an ethics of who is heard and who is silenced. His current work examines how conditions of oppression, including the imposition of silence, persist and transform for minority and marginalized people. Within this, he interrogates his own positionality, situated within the histories and present realities of structural harm — imperialism and colonialism foremost among them — perpetrated by the nation and society he belongs to — not as representation, but as self-critique, and from there, as solidarity.

He won the 29th JSCM (Japan Society for Contemporary Music) Award for Composers (2012) and the 37th IRINO PRIZE for Chamber-Orchestral Composition (2016). He was invited to Music From Japan Festival 2019 (in New York City).

He studied composition with Toma Imoto, Isao Matsushita, Norio Fukushi, Jo Kondo, Jummei Suzuki and Klaus Lang. He graduated at Tokyo University of the Arts and completed his master’s degree at the same university’s graduate school, after which he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

Sein Schaffen erforscht die Beziehungen zwischen Klängen, die Beziehung zwischen Klang und Stille sowie die Seinsweisen von Zeit und Raum in musikalischen Kompositionen. 黒田崇宏は1989年5月2日に富山県で生まれ、神奈川県出身の作曲家。千葉を拠点に活動している。

黒田は音同士の関係、音と沈黙との関係、および音楽作品における時間や空間のあり方を探求している。近年、「聴く」ことへの問いは、音響的な関係の知覚から、誰が聴かれ誰が沈黙させられるのかという倫理へと拡がっている。現在の創作では、マイノリティや周縁化された人々に沈黙を強いることを含む抑圧の条件がいかに持続し、変容するかを検討する。その中で、自らが属する国家や社会による帝国主義・植民地主義をはじめとする構造的加害の歴史と現在の中にある自身のポジショナリティを問う——代弁としてではなく、自己批判として、そしてそこからの連帯として。

彼は作曲家として、第29回現音作曲新人賞（2012年）、第37回入野賞（2016年・室内オーケストラ作品）等を受賞している。、また、Music From Japanから作品の委嘱を受け、Music From Japan Festival 2019 (ニューヨーク市)へ招待された。

黒田は東京藝術大学音楽学部作曲科を卒業し、同大学院音楽研究科修士課程作曲専攻を修了した後、グラーツ国立音楽大学で学んだ。彼はこれまでに作曲を井元透馬、松下功、福士則夫、近藤譲、鈴木純明、Klaus Langの各氏に師事にした。
